What is Frozen Fury?
Frozen Fury was created by the "founding fathers," who possessed a love for the sport of ultimate like no other. It was their hope that the club would one day dominate the sport of ultimate, deeming UMaine as the "holy land of disc."

Now on to the nitty gritty...
Mission Statement
As of January 1st, 2005, the organization known as the UMaine Frozen Fury officially began. Our mission, as a nonprofit organization, is to provide the means to build upon and improve the ultimate frisbee club. This club is open to and interested individual, regardless of gender, race, experience, talent, age or status with the University of Maine (undergraduate, graduate student, faculty, etc.). In addition to building a culture based upon the spirit of the game - which lies at the very heart of the sport of ultimate frisbee - we also hope to spread the competitive, yet fun-natured premise of our sport to any interested individual.
By-Laws
As of May 1st, 2005, the following by-laws apply to the members of the club, unless amended: (1) The club shall be divided into two seperate groups: a "casual" group and a "competitive" group, in order to meet the needs and desires of as many individuals as possible. (2) The "casual" group of players shall be composed of individuals who only want to play ultimate in the form of pick-up games or other non-tournament related activities. These players have no commitment to the club, other than to turn in a waiver form as all persons must in order to be associated with the club. (3) The "competitive group of players shall be composed of persons who want a larger role in the club and in the sport of ultimate frisbee in general. These players will need to attend a special practice each week, pay five dollar dues per year to the club, and, unless pardoned, attend a certain number of tournaments during the school year. The specific number of practices that can be missed, as well as the number of tournaments that each individual must attend without penalty, shall be determined by the officers and president in the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year. The penalties for failing to meet the previously mentioned statements shall be determined by the president. (4) The club shall always have the following leadership positions: president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Additional positions can be added as needed beyond the original four, but the original four positions can never be removed. All positions must be filled by undergraduate or graduate students. The general classification of each position is as follows: President: The president shall be responsible for overseeing the club. Typical tasks may include organizing meetings with the officers and club members, meeting with the head of recreational sports clubs at the University, budget concerns, organizing the means of going to tournaments, disciplinary actions for those in violation of the club's mission statement or by-laws, and other club needs as they appear. Vice-President: The vice-president shall be there to aid the president in making sure general club requirements are completed. His or her job shall depend heavily on what the president delegates. Secretary: This individual will be responsible for organizational tasks including making sure team paperwork is up to date (i.e. health forms, tournament information, etc.). Treasurer: The treasurer will help the president in financial aspects; making sure that the Frozen Fury account in balanced and all funds are accounted for, and assisting in budget concerns. (5) Starting by the end of the 2005 fall semester, the election process for officer positions will take place on an annual basis. Each fall semester, a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer will be voted on by the club members present at a meeting help for the one specific purpose of elections. Should a tie exist after voting takes place, one of two options may by used to decide a winner. The first option is to have the standing president vote to break the tie, but option two is to flip two discs, as is often done to determine who pulls to begin a game. Once of the two candidates shall call same or different - whether or not the same sides of the discs are the same or different once they land. Whoever wins the toss shall break the tie. (6) The elections conducted in the fall will determine who will be the officers the following fall. Each position is elected for a one year term. During the semester, the standing officers will help teach the soon-to-be officers about their responsibilities, thereby making the transition easier for the newer officers each fall. (7) Should an officer or president quit, or be unable to carry out their full term, an interim officer shall be put in their place, if possible. The president will decide how this is done, whether by election, or choosing the individual him/herself. The interim officer will act as a normal officer until the following election. (8) The standing president has the power, at any time, to amend, ignore, or otherwise decide to make exceptions or additions to any of the aforementioned by-laws, citing executive privilege. Such a choice should not be done lightly, however, and should only be done for the greater good of the club as a whole - not for any individual, including the president his/herself. If club members (not just officers) feel as though the president is abusing their power, they should talk to the head of recreational sports at the University. No internal process for "impeachment" is to be implemented, in order to keep the club stable and free of corruption. The standing president must either step down or be voted out in the fall to change the reigns of power of the club from one person to another. |
